Automatic transmission and manual transmission repairs and understanding
First of all i will say,if you are confirmed, that failure is related to yours cars transmission, then its suggested to get the transmission inspected and repaired from proper transmission repair shop technician.
On most of transmission failure issue, the transmission is rebuilt and or replaced.
Vehicle transmission assembly and its components are very costly and repairing/replacing transmission is not a easy job.
It needs proper car experience knowledge, otherwise its not possible for a newbie to proceed towards transmission repairing task.
Yes,inspecting minor issues like transmission fluid leaking or transmission fluid filling, transmission gear slipping, transmission not going in reverse .............. the inspecting thing is possible.
One thing i will say in case of transmission failures.Never let the minor issues settle down, these minor trans problem will result in major engine and transmission rebuilt requirements.
Always service your vehicle on time.Regularly inspect the fluids and oils which your vehicle required. If its low, refill the fluids and oil.
Always use high quality branded oil. Don't use non-branded local auto oil and trans fluids.
Never over fill the fluid.
Transmission components inspection starts from bell housing, trans fluid, trans filter, transmission shift gears, .........
Mostly when transmission starts failing you notice problems like transmission gears slipping, these is due to transmission fluid leaking.
Transmission will not go in reverse or may be it will not go in any gear.Transmission will not shift,
These all problems are related to low transmission fluid or clogged transmission fluid filter.
Sometime the fluid level is correct, but the transmission filter is clogged and that blocks the fluid to enter the transmission system. On these case the filter needs to be replaced.
Many a times a customer thinks its major transmission failure and lasdt fix is simple tranmission filter replacing and all gets o normal.
so always go with inspecting basics before directly getting into costly transmission replacing option.
WORKING THEORY OF TRANSMISSION:----
It works by simple procedure.Transmission along with transfer case. Both these components controls the shifting and operation of gears. Both transfer case and transmission transfer engine combustion energy to the rear wheels. These is done via series or adjusted gears.
the procedure is called gear shift.
To supply the required fluid to shift the gears smoothly in reverse/ forward direction the torque converter serves as a fluid coupling device between the engine and transmission.
On old cars you have to understand transmission issues by driving problems.
But you are not cen-percent confirmed that its actual transmission problem, till its inspected by technicaian.
But on latest new cars there are warning lights on dash indicator, these lights come up on dash,so these lets you know that transmission is causing the problem.
The check engine light, Overdrive( OD) light on dash.
There are obd scanner available to scan cars engine module and transmission control module. It provides you the error code, which tells you what part of transmission is causing problem.
These saves your lots of time and energy.
Car makes grinding rattling noise while driving,on such cases problem is transmission.
But you shift the lever to neutral and see if that noise is coming if yes transmission needs inspection. But if noise only in gears and not in neutral mode then problem is torque converter.the torque converter needle bearings may be worn, causing excessive movement and misalignment in the parts.
low fluid levels, failure of the internal clutch or band, and broken vacuum lines will cause transmission gear slipping issues while driving.
Vehicle shuddering and stalling while quick emergency stop is caused due to bad lockup solenoid, a shorted solenoid or a sticking lockup valve.
Always following these basics will help you to keep your vehicle in good condition and free from transmission problems:-------
BUT STILL IF YOU NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE REPLACE TRANSMISSION.
I HAVE FEW VERY GOOD HELPLINKS FOR VARIOUS CAR BRAND MODELS.
Yes the engine has to be out; it’s not a easy task to replace transmission. You will required professional tools and wrench/ratchets.
Also its very time consuming.
For your help, I suggest you few help links with accurate solutions, showing how exactly to replace transmission and other transmission components.
