Disarming the System?

1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and cover the battery terminal to prevent accidental contact.
3. Once the battery has been disconnected, if the electrical connector for the air bag gas generator is not disconnected, you must wait for a period of:
   
   
   30 minutes for vehicles manufactured before 9/93

   5 seconds for vehicles manufactured after 9/93

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and cover the battery terminal to prevent accidental contact.
4. Once the battery has been disconnected, wait for a period of approximately 10 minutes allowing the capacitor in the control unit to discharge.
5. When repairs are completed, connect the negative battery cable.

1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and cover the battery terminal to prevent accidental contact.
3. Once the battery has been disconnected, wait for a period of approximately 10 minutes allowing the capacitor in the control unit to discharged. Once the capacitor is discharged, a trigger pulse cannot be generated inadvertently.
4. Disconnect the crash sensors in the engine compartment.
5. Remove the lower cover of the steering column and disconnect the orange connector.
