1996 ford ranger:How do you replace the ignition switch

Ford Ignition switch replacement

ford ignition
Remove  the steering column  shroud you can access the small hole in the bottom of the key cylinder. When you put the key in and turn it to the "on" position push a small awl or similar tool into this hole which pushes the catch pin and you should be able to pull the cylinder assembly out. With the new cylinder in the same key position just push it back in and reassemble column. and it will be fitted.also for more help -
Using your current key, insert it into the ignition & turn the ignition to the "On" position but not the "Start" position. Do not start the truck.
Next, using a very small screwdriver (preferably a phillips head) insert it into the hole located under the ignition key cylinder on the steering column.
Pressing upwards with the small screwdriver or nail, you will press in the release button.
Firmly grip the key & ignition cylinder while pressing up on this release button & remove while in the "On" position.
Insert your new ignition cylinder with the key in it, into the "On" position until it snaps in place. Going in, the release button does not need to be depressed.
You now have a Cylinder key, that will not match your door lock keys

How to replace the brake light on a 2003 honda pilot

Brake Light Replacing

Question : - How to replace the brake light on a 2003 honda pilot ?

The Procedure starts here:

There are two Philips head screws that are only accessible after opening the rear tailgate lid. Remove the two screws which will allow the removal of the entire tail-light assembly. (Note that it might take some effort as there are two retaining lugs on the outer edge of the fixture which are press fitted but wiggle and pull and they will pop loose, just be careful.) The lights are identified tail and brake. A third turn to the left and the bulb housing can be removed. Simply pull the bulb from the plug and replace with like bulb bought at any auto parts store.

NOTE : what ever you do .Do it carefully and slowly.

will not shift into overdrive all the time

The OverDrive button/switch is used to prevent the vehicle from switching into a top gear. This increases the RPM of the engine and gives better performance. Overdrive  means shifting the transmission to the Top Gear.Mostly this is done when driving the vehicle on highway speeds.

A lot of transmissions get fried because they were flushed.

In the future Just change the filter don't flush it.You should be able to find a used transmission pretty cheap though.

Make sure the transmission fluid is at the proper level that could cause it to not shift properly.

Check the coolant temperature sender for the A/T computer, and make sure the engine is reaching proper operating temperature. If not, the A/T computer will not allow overdrive.

Other possibility  can be faulty overdrive sensor.

By far and large the number one culprit for not shifting is cold temperature.
Vehicle will not shift into OD until the transmission fluid is up to operating temperature.

There are few possibilities that can cause this problem:

Cold Temperature
Fouled out spark plug.Clean the dirty carbon layer collected on the plugs.
Bad Coil Pack or it can be Broken Coil Pack Connector
Vacuum Leak, get the vacuum pressure tested.
No gas cap or worn out gas cap.Inspect it now.
Bad Knock Senor
Or a issue of Bad O2 Sensor.

For start up you get it on a good transmission capable scanner and see what is going on.

what  needs to be done is monitor the live data on the scanner and see whether 4th gear is commanded by the computer.
Ensure that  scanner needs to be on it while driving and when O/D falls out see if the computer is still commanding it. If you are getting the command then your problem is most likely in the 2/4 band servo. Most likely a leak in the 4th piston. -

This testing will help.

Thanks.

POWER STEERING TROUBLESHOOTING, STEERING SQUEAKS, POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKS, FAULTY POWER STEERING PUMP, POWER STEERING NOT WORKING, POWER STEERING BELT,

Power Steering working and its troubleshooting

On previous old cars there was manual steering wheel. It was very hard stiff to turn, while now a days latest power steering is introduced, its very smooth and easy to operate.

Steering wheel control becomes very easy when its power steering.

Power steering is driven by belt, hydraulic pump and fluid.
The hydraulic pressure steering pump is driven by power steering belt. The belt is aligned on pulleys.Same belt is also routed through the air conditioning compressor pump and other engine accessories.

There is special kind of fluid called power steering fluid, the steering assembly components gets lubricated via these fluid.

The power steering fluid runs from hoses  to and from the pump and the steering box.

Many a times these hoses gets worn out and fluid starts leaking.Sometimes the required pressure for power steering system gets low due to hoses getting old and worn out.
To check whether fluid is there or its got low, there is dipstick located in the power steering fluid reservoir chamber. There is a small dipstick built into the reservoir cap. The dipstick will show you the exact fluid level in the reservoir.

Inspect the condition of power steering belt ,if the belt is gor very old youwill notice power steering problems while turning the wheel left to right. Also if the belt gets over stretched and loose, then it will loose its actual tension.

On these cases first try to tighten the belt tension and see if its helping,if not then replace belt.

On some cases its faulty valves, the power steering pump pressure valves.
To confirm there is enough pressure turn the wheel left to right and see if the wheel is turning properly and smoothly.

NOTE: Do not hold steering wheel on left and right side completely for more then few seconds. Holding it for too much time will create over pressure and steering wheel system can get damaged.

Always fill recommended power steering fluid in the reservoir if wrong fluid is filled the steering system will get damaged.

On that case the steering system has to be flushed.

To flush the system, its not very difficult:----

First disconnect hoses for  Rack and Pinion .
After that  place the outlet hose from the power steering pump into a empty pan or container. Make sure its not too small and have good capacity to hold the liquid which is going to get released..
Now get your original fluid and  Fill the pump reservoir with fresh fluid - start engine - continue filling with fresh fluids until the fluid coming from the pump outlet is running clean.

NOTE:----  DO NOT RUN THE PUMP DRY (without fluid). IT WILL GET DAMAGED.

After Its done, then reconnect the lines to the rack, fill power steering reservoir with fluid to correct level.
Please note you have to bleed the air getting in with the fluid. There should be no air bubbles.
Now-a days all latest steering systems are self-bleeding. What you have to do is few turns left to right will remove any air in the system.

If some air is still in there then please make sure you get all the the air out otherwise it results in "growling" type of noise.

Towards power steering troubleshooting, start by inspecting tire pressure, if the tire pressure is low, then get the pressure done correct.Because low tire pressure will make the steering harder to operate, and will require more effort to steer.

So when steering is hard to steer the problem is low tire pressure or steering fluid low.

If the steering pump is making noise then its faulty or slipping steering belt.Inspect the belt .
Other possibilities for power steering problem is misalignment of front suspension.Inspect the suspension.

HEATER NOT BLOWING COLD,NO HOT AIR FROM HEATER,A/C BLOWS HOT AIR,A/C NOT BLOWING COLD, COLD AIR FROM HEATER,BLEND DOOR ACUTATOR CLOSED,HVAC UNIT NOT OPERATING,

A/C and heater problems on car, Heater blows Cold Air, A/C blowing Hot air, No cold air from System, No hot Air from System, Hot air on driver side only,

There are many such car HVAC system issues noticed by car owners

Heater and A.c System are very important factor of car.
At required time you really need them,if the heating or cooling is not working properly it really makes you worried and also at times frustrated.

So in that case to troubleshoot the issue.

The most possible help links are provided below:-----

It can be low coolant,or may be coolant getting leaked from under the vehicle, or its blockage in coolant line causing no coolant to run and you notice vehicle overheating or no cool air.
Another possibility is the air blend door not working properly.
Also check the hoses for warm water flow to make sure that the hot water is flowing properly.
Touch and feel each hose to see if both are getting hot. If not then issue is closed thermostat or faulty thermostat or the  valve in line  might be shutting off the water flow.
On some vehicles there is thermostat and on some there is temp control valves to prevent water flow through the heater core during the run of the ac.
If hot water is flowing correctly  through the heater core, then next step is to access the under dash area to see if the heater blend door is operating properly.
These blend door actuator are usually vacuum operated.
So make sure you check no vacuum lines are broken.
Some blend doors on some cars are operated by normal motor,on that case the motor and its wiring needs to be inspected.
